Sony's UMD Facing Last Rites - Yahoo! News
Disappointing sales have slowed the flow of movies on the proprietary Universal Media Disc to a mere trickle. At least two major studios have completely stopped releasing movies on UMD, while others are either toying with the idea or drastically cutting back.

This video is crazy!!!

Here is a very nice entertainment room. It is always nice to see how others go about setting up their gear.

Sony's Phil Harrison talks up the PlayStation Network Platform
However, Harrison admitted that the US is a tough battleground in the Sony versus Microsoft war, saying the latter company is "definitely a more vigorous competitor here than anywhere else in the world" - but added that "in some countries PlayStation is the videogame business."

PSP vs DS: 1 Year Later from 1UP.com
And then there were two. The DS is cleaning up in Japan -- the sheer demand for the console there has siphoned every single unit from the marketplace, while PSPs sit unloved on store shelves. But here in the U.S., it's a neck-and-neck race. And, since the PSP launched one year ago on March 24th, 2005, we thought it'd be an excellent time to revisit the past year and gauge the situation as it stands today.

Xbox 360 Shipments Ramp Up news from 1UP.com

Microsoft has announced that they will start shipping two and three times the amount of Xbox 360s to retailers nationwide in an attempt to start meeting gamers' demand for next-generation gaming with the right supply.

Initially, Microsoft hoped to sell 2.75 million to 3 million consoles in the first 90 days after the product's U.S. launch in November. The company later reduced that target to 2.5 million but said it still aimed to sell 4.5 million to 5.5 million units by the end of June. The extra machines come courtesy of Celestica, a third manufacturing partner Microsoft revealed back during the Consumer Electronics Show back in early January.

PS3 Conference Report - Date and More! News Story From 1UP.com

PS3 Conference Report - Date and More! News Story From 1UP.com

Finally, some real details from Sony about the PS3.

  1. Sony plans to release the PS3 in Japan, North America, and Europe simultaneously within the first 10 days of November.
  2. The PS3 will include a 60GB hard drive (which is upgradeable) with Linux preinstalled.
  3. Sony's online service called the "PlayStation Network Platform", will feature such functions as matchmaking, messaging, rankings, friends lists, voice/video chat, in-game shopping, and game downloads to the hard drive. Best of all, the service will be free (as of right now, it isn't clear on whether there will also be a paid tier of service similar to Xbox Live Gold). The service will also allow for publishers to connect their own game servers.

Sony also offered an apology for the screwup. I hope Sony keeps their word from now on and we can get our hands on PS3's by this Christmas.

Good day!
